Pane carasau

Pane carasau is a popular Italian recipe. It is a traditional crisp and thin bread from Sardinia in Italy. The meaning of Pane carasau is music paper bread. Pane carasau is made by separating baked flat bread into 2 parts and then again baking it.

The ingredients for making Pane carasau are as follow:
  • 4 Cups Flour
  • 1/4 Cup warm Water
  • 1 tsp Salt
  • 3/4 tsp active dry Yeast
  • 1 Cup Water

The method of preparing Pane carasau is discussed below: First the yeast is to be dissolved in water and to keep for 5 to 10 minutes. Then dissolve the salt in the additional water. Now, take the flour and make a well and put the dissolved yeast and the dissolved salt. Continue mixing till a nice dough is formed. It will be a slightly damp, soft one.

Lake the pieces from the dough into a size which will be comfortable for you. The dough will be stretched so make the pieces accordingly. Now make the portion into 4 equal parts. Now, dust the proofing board or canvas with flour and place the portions of dough. Cover the dough with cotton towel and allow it to rise till it is on the verge of tripling. It takes nearly 3 to 4 hours time.

As the dough starts rising, place a baking stone into the oven and regulate the temperature to 450 degree Fahrenheit. Also, the oven needs to be heated for 30 minutes.

With a rolling pin, roll evenly each of the portion of the dough to am uniform thickness and make sure there should not be any crease or hole. Also, to prevent the dough from sticking in the work surface, you need to dust the work surface with flour, continuously.

At last, the pieces are taken again to the oven and baked for 10 minutes each side and the breads become crispy and dry by this time.
