Soul food

Soul food is a particular selection of foods. It is an American cuisine. It is a very popular food in Afro-American people. The Afro-Americans who are originated from the Southern United States like the Soul food. 'Soul food' the term was derived from the name of 'soul' as in the middle of 1960s, soul was the most vernacular adjective that was applied to identify Afro-American culture. The year of origin of the Soul food was in the1960. The origins of soul food are very older and it can easily be described by the nation of Africa. According to ancient history, it is believed that the origin of Soul food was in the14th century. It was the time of former African expedition. I

In this period, European adventurers got their own supply of food and at the same time they had introduced themselves with the African diet. Foods like turnips from Morocco and cabbages from Spain were used in most of the Afro-American cuisines and these were the integral part of the history of Afro-American cuisines.

Regarding the history of Afro-American cuisines, it is known that, there was no wastage in the conventional Afro-American kitchen. All the leftover foods were reused with some additional edible products like cornmeal or flour, egg, seasonings and so many things. Stale bread and each part of the pig were also used to prepare some special type of dishes. Sometimes, the liquid from cooked green vegetables was used as a gravy and it was known as 'potlikker'.



There is a major controversy over the difference between the soul food and the Southern American cooking. Basically, Soul food is the first southern American cuisines to originate with the Creole cuisine. At the year of 1870s, German, Irish, and Czech migrators began to get into the south with the soul food. After that, the broad category of Southern cooking were built up. Originally, Soul food was formulated by the slave African people who lived under the tough as well as deprived situation of toiling physical labor.
